Contrary to Dow Jones Newswire's Thursday report about Mac clone maker Psystar shuttering down for good after recently losing the legal battle against Apple, the company's lawyer K. A. D. Camara has clarified that though the company's Web site has been turned off, the company does not intend closing down permanently.
Camara, of Houstaon, Texas-based Camara & Sibley law firm, elucidated that the stories of Psystar's imminent closure resulted from a misquoted response from another lawyer, who was responding to queries about the company's future.
The Dow Jones Newswire story quoted attorney Eugene Action as saying that Psystar "will not be in business," and that it would be "shutting things down immediately," after the overwhelming loss in court. The court has ruled a permanent injunction against Psystar, thereby preventing the company from selling hardware that runs the so-called 'hackintosh' - hacked versions of the Apple OS X operating system.
Camara, said that the Dow Jones' report became the key source for several other similar stories about Psystar's closure, including posts on AppleInsider, MacNN and TG Daily, with the supposed claims made by Action repeated by all of them.
In an e-mail to Computerworld, Camara, who refrained from discussing the future course of action that Psystar would take, reiterated: "Regrettably, Mr. Action was misquoted in an early story that seems to have been picked up elsewhere. Psystar does not intend to shut down permanently."
