On Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden announced the first $182 Million worth of funds to be injected in form of Federal stimulus to help take the 18 projects to expand the availability of high- speed broadband network, across rural areas and other under-served communities, further.
The initial 18 projects are just a starting point of a $7.2 Billion mega plan to bring high-speed internet connections to areas which still do not have access to it.
The initial funds were announced at Impulse Manufacturing, a Georgia based metalworks plant, which is technologically advanced but was being pulled down because of a lack of availability of broadband network.
In addition to Georgia, the other areas which the project will initially assist are Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Arizona and Alaska.
"New broadband access means more capacity and better reliability in rural areas and under-served urban communities around the country. Businesses will be able to improve their customer service and better compete around the world. We're forming the tools that will fashion the work of the 21st century. We are laying the foundation for the economy of tomorrow", Mr. Biden said.
