Clarient Acquired Applied Genomics for $17.6 million

Privately held product of Huntsville, the Cancer test maker, Applied Genomics, has been acquired by Clarient Inc. The company has confirmed that the acquisition was made for $17.6 million in stock.

The products offered by the firm aid in diagnosing types of cancer, including strains of non-small cell lung cancer and breast cancer. The acquisition and ownership of these products will now help the “medical device maker” in development of new cancer tests. This will also help in determining a patient's prognosis with the most effective therapies.

The deal struck in exchange for 4.4 million Clarient shares and up to 3.2 million additional Clarient shares issuable to Applied Genomics stockholders pending certain milestones. Clarient stock was at $2.48 with a penny loss.
