Cable channel HBO owned by Time Warner Inc., has signed a multi-year exclusive deal with Harpo Films, Oprah Winfrey's production company to make movies, documentaries, TV mini-series and series for it. The move to HBO, puts an end to the long relationship between Walt Disney Co.'s channel - ABC and Winfrey's production company, which made uplifting movies like Emmy-award winning 'Tuesdays with Morrie' and 'Their Eyes Were Watching God', starring Halle Berry.
Calling it a great match, as both are committed to the highest standards in the entertainment industry, Kate Forte, president of Harpo Films explains the move to HBO, because of the latter's unique blend of format and creativity on television HBO offers, including 'and the quality and range of their subjects are extraordinary.'
Earlier this month, trade paper The Hollywood named Oprah Winfrey, 54, entertainment industry's most powerful woman.
Apart from producing The Oprah Winfrey Show, Harpo Inc. is also scheduled to kick-off OWN, a new basic cable network specially designed to air unscripted programming it plans to co-produce with Discovery Communications.
