With fun and frolic marking the holiday season, and fattening foods, cocktails and parties galore to tempt even the most weight-conscious of all people, the US Department of Health and Human Services has come out with some useful ‘healthy eating’ tips.
The first and foremost suggestion being offered to keep unnecessary weight gain at bay is to enjoy all the delicacies of the holiday season with “moderation” as the watch-word.
Furthermore, in order to avoid over-indulgence of eats and drinks at the different parties that one might have to attend, it is advised that one should ‘pace’ oneself – in other words, go slow, and don’t gorge. Enjoy whatever you are eating, and heed to your stomach’s indications of being full!
Another good way to avoid overeating is to drink water alongside your meal or snacks, as well as restrict your intake of alcohol. Since most alcoholic drinks contain nearly 200 calories per serving, a few glasses can equal the amount of all the daily calories required.
Make a conscious effort to cut some of the extra calories while feasting by treating yourself to at least one healthy option of a low-calorie dish. And, so as to burn the extra calories that inadvertently creep into your diet, go out fro a stroll after dinner. Moreover, move around at the party, rather than sitting at one place, that too close to the food table!
