It is best to stay away from dark colored liquors this holiday season if you want to avoid a horrible hangover. Darker liquors such as bourbon, red wine, brandy, and spiced rum, can more likely cause nasty hangovers than light colored liquors, a new study, which will soon be posted in the journal Alcohol: Clinical and Experimental Research, said.
The study reported that those who consumed lighter colored alcohols such white wine, vodka, and gin had lesser chances of feeling hung over the next day.
These results were concluded after putting about 95 healthy adults under a study. They were given enough liquor to get drunk and then surveyed the next day. The adults who drank dark liquors were much more likely to report symptoms of feeling sick and hung over. Researchers found that those who drank the bourbon also felt worse than those drinking vodka or light colored liquors. However both groups of drinkers had similar levels of impairments with particular tasks the following day.
Researchers said the amount of chemicals used in dark liquors were responsible for this. Dark liquors have up to 37 times more chemicals than light liquors, studies reported.
