Hotel Reopened After Legionnaires' Attack

A luxury hotel in Miami has been reopened after 2 weeks, after it was forced to relocate guests because of the presence of bacteria in its water. As many as 4 cases of Legionnaires' disease, one of them critical and much fatal, were discovered among people who had stayed at the Epic Hotel.

On Saturday, however, the health officials lifted a Legionnaire's disease advisory, after the hotel successfully updated its water filtration system to make sure that it did not strip the chlorine completely from the water.

According to the officials, the stripping of chlorine, in addition to other problems in the system, may have promoted the spread of Legionnaires' disease.

As the investigation is not yet over, as shared by Miami-Dade County Health Department officials, they are not sure if the hotel was actually the cause of the illness.

"We will continue to work with (the hotel) to make sure the water supply is safe. We are pleased that the hotel is now (again) receiving guest", said Epic Hotel spokesman Bruce Rubin.

To fight against the problem, the hotel made sure that its filtration system is disconnected and then overhauled with large doses of chlorine so that all the bacteria are killed.
