Early Tuesday morning, an Ottawa police officer, the first ever official to die in the line of duty in over 25 years, was stabbed to death outside a hospital emergency ward in the city. It has been confirmed by the police that the officer was stabbed at around 4:30 am, outside the Ottawa Hospital's Civic Campus.
Police Chief Vern White, much shaken by the incident, confirmed that the officer, whose name has not been disclosed, died at about 5:30 am, despite the paramedics and hospital staff trying their best to help him.
The male officer, sources report, was sitting in a cruiser outside the hospital's ER, when he was suddenly attacked and stabbed.
Mr. White has said that one suspect is currently in custody after he was subdued by two paramedics who were nearby and quick thinking bystanders.
The now dead police officer had been at the hospital for an incident that was unrelated.
Investigations are on and no charges have currently been pressed on the man in custody.
