The ongoing battle in the emerging mobile market is evidently heating up - with Mozilla looking to be all set to launch its Firefox web browser 'Fennec' for mobile phones next year.

To be optimized for the mobile phones, the Firefox Fennec mobile web browser - which will reportedly feature touchscreen support, and pop-up blockers with a tabbrowsing interface - will likely be available for most open environments like Android, Nokia's Maemo, Symbian and Microsoft's Windows Mobile.

The Firefox Fennec is likely to give substantial competition to rival mobile web browsers like Opera Mini, Chrome, Nokia, Safari, Netfront and Internet Explorer for mobile. While the Apple Safari for iPhone will not be affected by competition from Fennec, a few other browsers, including Android, Blackberry, iTouch, and Sony PSP, might see a change in their market share statistics after Fennec is released.

Specifically speaking about the global market share of mobile web browsers, Opera, with a 26 percent share is the market leader; followed by Safari with it 22 percent share; Nokia web browser with 19 percent; and iTouch with 10 percent.

This mobile web browser market share data in India will likely undergo a change with Fennec being launched; more so as Firefox holds a 30 percent market share in the desktop browser market in the country, following Microsoft's Internet explorer which has 50 percent of the Indian web browser market share.
