According to reports, Motorola “may announce” two new Android-based smartphones for two different carriers – one for the Verizon Wireless and the other for AT&T - at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to be held at Las Vegas next week.
While Verizon already boasts Motorola’s popular Android-based ‘Droid’ smartphone on its network, the likely-to-be-announced Motorola device would be the first Motorola Android smartphone to be unveiled for the AT&T network.
Going by the buzz that is making rounds on Android-related blogs, the forthcoming Motorola device for the Verizon network will be dubbed either Enzo or Backflip; whereas the AT&T device will be called Opus One, and would be similar, both in appearance and functionality, to Google’s Nexus One smartphone.
The specs of Enzo will include a Android 1.5; a 3.1-inch display at HVGA; Qualcomm MSM7201A processor; 256MB RAM; 5-megapixel camera; Bluetooth 2.1; Wi-Fi; and GPS. Meanwhile, the notable features of Opus One include 3.1-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen; Zeus XScale processor; 512MB Flash / 256MB RAM; accelerometer; 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash; Wi-Fi; Bluetooth; microSD card slot and Android location-based services.
According to a research note written by Global Equities Research Analyst Trip Chowdhry to his clients, both the new Motorola Android phones will run the Google Experiences software. In addition, one of the phones will support an OLED soft keyboard screen, while the other would have a Droid-akin physical keyboard.
