The recent misdealing with the Patricia Howard’s insurance has led to Adam Hamm, North Dakota insurance commissioner, revoking its license on Thursday.

Also, the legislature agreed to increase the maximum fine from one thousand dollars to ten thousand dollars. The change takes effect today.

Howard, a Dunn Center insurance agent, was allegedly involved in dishonest practices against various clients, in accordance to a press release from the North Dakota Insurance Department. Clients believed that they had insurance coverage under the company when they didn’t.

The Insurance Department learned about a client who believed that he had bought a farm liability policy through Howard in September 2008, but later found that Howard had not advanced the check to the insurance company.

Another case involved former Fargo insurance agent Larry Atkins, in which Howard was allegedly involved in creating a document titled “ACORD Insurance Binder” containing false information and using it to provide proof of insurance of a policy. Her clients believed that they had been secured via Howard, but it was never submitted to the intended insurer.

“We opened up files on those and we’ll be looking into the issues to determine whether or not they have coverage and if not, what can be done”, Hamm said. However, it is unclear whether Howard was practicing when her license was revoked.
