Despite the fact that News Corp and Time Warner Cable have managed to settle their very bitter and public dispute over fees to be paid with an agreement on New Year's Day, various questions are still irking cable television viewers across the nation.
The agreement was good news for over 6 million Time Warner subscribers who feared that they would lose Fox channels and broadcast of popular shows such as "American Idol". But, for now at least, the problem seems solved and viewers are happy.
Although the companies have clarified that the channels would not be dropped, they have still not revealed anything about how the new agreement would affect the month end bill received by subscribers.
A similar dispute, which was going on between Cablevision and Scripps Networks Interactive Inc., did not, however, end this amicably, and angry customers across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, who lost access to HGTV and Food Network starting Friday, accused both the companies of "greed and arrogance".
Before more such disputes occur, the results of which are mostly suffered by subscribers, demands are being made for "some sort of government oversight over the cable industry".
