Law about Oregon Electronics Dumping Now in Effect

As Friday rolled in, Oregon managed to become the 12th American state to place a ban of disposal of various electronics into landfills.

As per the second phase of the state's electronics recycling law, it is now illegal to trash out equipment like televisions, computers and monitors, and could end up the disposer being fined a whopping $500.

In 2007, Oregon's e-cycle law was passed, which aimed at slowing electronics waste and the toxins that are released as a result of their break down.

The law's first phase was launched last year, which called for electronics manufacturers to pay for a statewide permanent program to support free and convenient recycling.

Over the first 8 months of the law's phase one, Oregon managed to collect over 14.3 million pounds of television sets, computers and monitors.
