A 22 year old Saskatoon woman has been placed under arrest over charges of theft after, what the police confirmed was a joyride in a hospital ambulance.
As confirmed by the local police, at about 4:30 AM they were informed of an emergency vehicle being stolen from St. Paul's Hospital, and a tracking system helped the authorities to catch up with it.
The ambulance had collided with a power pole, and the complete damage has been estimated at about $180,000.
The unidentified woman suffered minor injuries, for which she was taken to a nearby hospital, and now her condition has been reported as stable.
MD Ambulance spokesman Troy Davies informed that the front doors of the vehicle were locked, but the back doors had been kept open so that the paramedics had access to equipment. "The paramedic ran outside to try and get her (the driver) out of the truck and she kind of just took off", he said.
The woman has been charged with theft of over $5,000 and might also be slapped with traffic charges.
