The B. C. Centre for Disease Control warns people not to consume any non-pasteurized dairy products from a raw milk dairy in Chilliwack after tests found some of the items were tainted.
The centre said in a news release that contamination was found in raw milk, yogurt, cream, and butter and cream cheese samples from the Home on the Range dairy.
The tests were part of an ongoing investigation by public health officials from the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the Fraser Health Authority according to the release.
Dairy products are distributed all across the Lower Mainland, even though the sale of raw milk is illegal in Canada.
Serious illness can be caused in people with raw milk products especially seniors, young children and those weakened immune systems.
The centre said there’s no evidence of a scientific basis that raw milk is healthier than pasteurized dairy products.
Health officials advised that all products that have been procured from the Home on the Range dairy should be disposed.
