At its press conference on Wednesday, Samsung marked its foray into a number technology trends that are expected to create quite a stir at the Las Vegas' Consumer Electronics Show - it unveiled two e-readers in partnership with Google Books; its first 3D Blu-ray player; a 3D television; and a 2-inch MP3 player.
As per the details forwarded by the company, the two new Wi-Fi-enabled Samsung e-readers - E6 and E101 - can store up to 1,200 books; and the Google partnership for the devices will help the readers view over 1 million public domain books.
Going by the brief information provided about the newly-announced 3D Blu-ray player, called BD-C6900, the slim-designed device has a transparent cover and built-in Wi-Fi; and supports Internet@TV/Samsung Apps - thereby providing content from Netflix, Pandora, Twitter, Vudu, Blockbuster, and Picasa.
Meanwhile, announcing its new line of uber-thin 3D televisions, Samsung said that the new 3-inch-wide TV models are the thinnest LED televisions in the world - and, as Samsung electronics president Tim Baxter put it, they are "actually the width of a pencil."
In addition, Samsung revealed that its new 2-inch MP3 player, called the IceTouch, features a translucent AMOLED touch-screen, which has been used on portable music players for the first time, and will enable users to see through the screen while watching a video.
