Listeria fears initiate meat recall

Several deli products following fears that they could be contaminated by Listeria were recalled by a Montreal meat processor.

Warnings have been issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency about consumption of several brands of mock chicken loaf, bologna and ham.

On December 22 there was a similar recall by the firm. These recalls affected two Toronto plants. This recall is Olymel's second in just over two weeks.

There has been a distribution of the recalled products in Ontario and Quebec and possibly New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

The contaminated food may look acceptable but the bacteria can initiate serious health problems after consuming contaminated products. It can cause listeriosis which triggers severe headache, fever, nausea and stiffness in neck.

No illnesses however were reported before the products were recalled and also after that.

Authorities have asked to call Olymel S. E. C. at (514) 858-9000 or contact the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 for more information.
