Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, who recently got married in Mexico while on holiday, went to a Beverly Hills courthouse to get their marriage legally formalized. However, questions remain, whether the civil ceremony actually took place or not.
Teasing doubters without proving their nuptials, Pratt while on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show said the couple took steps to keep their marriage license confidential. However, a Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman reveals, MTV was given permission to film a wedding scene inside a courtroom, though the taping occurred after-hours, without the participation of any judge.
A MTV statement released Wednesday states: 'MTV crews captured Heidi and Spencer at the Beverly Hills Courthouse with the deputy commissioner who handles all civil unions.' However, Alan Parachini, a Court spokesman reveals, a staffer told him a very upset Montag running out of the courtroom interrupted the service, and no one knows whether she returned to complete the ceremony. According to the recorder's office, there is no public record of Pratt. 25, and Montag, 22, getting married, neither did they receive any request nor was there a deputy commissioner, a non-judicial officer with powers to perform marriage ceremonies, available after-hours to perform the ceremony.
'The Hills' pair who had a symbolic marriage ceremony near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, without taking steps necessary for a legally binding service, need to get married in an American court before they are recognized as a legally married couple.
A Monday episode of 'The Hills' showed the pair spontaneously agreeing to exchange vows after downing several shots of tequila, and moments later the fourth season finale of MTV's show, shows Pratt and Montag walking into a courtroom accompanied by Pratt's sister, Stephanie Pratt, while a man appearing to be a judge smiles down on them from the bench, as Montag says: 'I, Heidi, take thee, Spencer,' in the clip.
So, did Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt fake their wedding scene, all over again. Addressing the controversy over the issue on KISS-FM's On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Pratt says: 'We checked the confidentiality box, so good luck people.'
So, while there is no record of any marriage license for the couple in L. A. County , Sid Keating of the L. A. Registrar's office says, any couple can request their license to remain private.
