Popular Food Chains Beginning to Counting Calories

One of the most popular New Year's resolutions is to "eat right" or "eat better", and this year, major food and restaurant chains are all set to help their customers keep and follow this resolution effectively. While KFC, the popular fried chicken place, has introduced a 398-calorie grilled chicken meal, with is served complete with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, Uno Chicago Grill has included a 550-calorie roasted vegetable and feta wrap to the menu, prepared with whole-wheat and flaxseed tortilla.

Also, Starbucks, the place where almost everyone heads at least once a day, will be introducing four sandwiches starting next week, each with 440 calories or fewer. Also, all of the company's
11,000 or more stores will be launching a campaign to promote drinks which are less than 90 calories.

What is more interesting is that these new offering are not just designed for new-year dieters who want to cut back on their calorie consumption. Food chains across the country are re-working their fat-and-calorie dipped items, to introduce them in a way which makes them lighter and healthier, without cutting back on the taste factor.

The new healthcare bill seem to be the biggest driving force behind the changes, as one part of President Obama's new legislation states that any chain with over 20 outlets has to post calories on the menu in a "clear and conspicuous" manner, as well as provide complete nutritional information about foods served whenever asked.
