That the BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion (RIM) is vying with other tech companies to exhibit its latest products at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is evident from the fact that the company unveiled its latest BlackBerry accessory - The BlackBerry Presenter - on January 6!
Even though RIM is not likely to introduce any new BlackBerry handsets at the CES, the company will showcase the new BlackBerry Presenter, along with its full lineup of smartphones and accessories at the event.
The BlackBerry Presenter is a 3.4 inch x 2.4 inch box-shaped device that can plug into a projector or a monitor, thereby enabling the user to give ‘wireless’ PowerPoint presentations from a BlackBerry smartphone. The company specified that the Presenter is compatible with several third-party Bluetooth-enabled devices.
Likely to be available on RIM's ShopBlackBerry. com for $199 this month, the Presenter works with Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 and 2007 and supports 24 animations and 55 transitions in the slides. The activation of the “loop” and “freeze” modes of the device respectively allow users to set a specific time between slide transitions, and to navigate the collection of slides.
Noting that the device frees PowerPoint presentations from the PC, Glenn Laxdal, RIM’s VP of Product Management, said: “BlackBerry Presenter equips mobile professionals with a simple, secure and convenient way to deliver presentations directly from their BlackBerry smartphone, giving them the freedom to leave their laptops behind.”
