As per recent concerns shared by one of the leading Nova Scotia Alzheimer's researchers, Ottawa and the province must work together and undertake some urgent actions to come up with a national strategy to deal with dementia "before it's too late".
Professor of geriatric medicine and Alzheimer research chair at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Kenneth Rockwood, has shared that a report released on Monday by the Alzheimer Society of Canada should be driving factor for authorities to act urgently, especially across Nova Scotia, where there is more elderly population.
"Right now is the beginning of the rising tide. We can't wait until it's washed over us; we need to act now", he said.
According to Professor Rockwood, most of the actions that need to be undertaken do not involving spending of any money, but these would mean doing things differently, and one similar action is to treat dementia patients who are very ill for the pain they are suffering, instead of trying to save their lives by all means.
"That way, those people can die in comfort rather than in confusion and pain", he said.
