After Mayo Clinic announced that it would stop accepting Medicare patients at its facility in Glendale, Arizona, the institution became the target of some very blunt and bitter criticism. But the clinic, it seems, is currently getting down to some serious damage control, in order to take some heat off the issue.
A post on the official blog of the clinic specified that some media reports had wrongly stated that the organization would not be seeing any Medicare patients across the state, when instead; Mayo had only decided to cut back patients who "see only primary care office visits for the five Mayo family practice physicians at this site".
However, interestingly, Mayo did seem to hint that it could change its mind, as it stated that the "physicians opted out of Medicare as part of a Mayo Clinic time-limited trial that will be reviewed at its conclusion".
The rest of the post, although, has been dedicated by the organization to clarify how it loses huge amounts of money on Medicare patients.
"This is one of several options we are exploring to address the Medicare shortfall situation", the blog says.
