Warnings are now being issued by the B. C. Centre for Disease Control to all residents to not consume any unpasteurized dairy products from a Chilliwack based raw milk dairy after various tests conducted found that some of the products were tainted.
The officials found "fecal contamination" in the dairy's raw milk, yogurt, cream, butter and cream cheese samples. The dairy under scrutiny is the Home on the Range dairy, as confirmed by the Center on Tuesday.
The tests which have brought out the contamination were a part of an ongoing probe by public health officers from the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the Fraser Health Authority.
Products are distributed by the dairy via a variety of outlets across Lower Mainland, despite the fact that the sale of raw, unpasteurized milk is illegal in Canada, as it can cause serious illnesses in people, more-so in young children, the elderly and those who have weak immune systems.
The center has also pointed out that there is no evidence that raw milk is healthier than pasteurized milk.
