Plastic Logic finally made a formal announcement of its much-previewed e-reader – called the ‘Que proReader’ – at the CES on Thursday. Aimed essentially at business professionals, the Plastic Logic Que reader comes in partnership with some of the well-known newspapers, magazines, and blogs.
Scheduled for shipping in mid-April, the Que e-reader – which costs nearly $650 for 4-GB memory version, and $800 for 8-GB model - will feature content from a number of content providers, including USA TODAY, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and Forbes, among others.
In addition, the Que also boasts its singular online store that includes digital books, using the ePub format, from Barnes & Noble. It will use 3G network from AT&T, as well as Wi-Fi, to enable wirelessly download of the reading material.
Based on the proprietary plastic transistor technology of Plastic Logic, the Que features a large, lightweight, black and white glass-free display, and a touchscreen interface. As per the manufacturer, the e-reader especially targets business professionals, who actually “need to read,” unlike other users who largely read for pleasure.
Noting that the 8.5-by-11 inch screen of the Que is particularly suitable for newspaper and magazine publishers, who also look to feature more than text alone, USA TODAY publisher Dave Hunke said that the Que “delivers our content the way it's supposed to look and feel.”
