While performing at a summer KFEST 2007 concert at Dutchess Stadium, hip hop singer Akon, 35, was caught on video, picking up and tossing Anthony C. Smith, a 15-year old fan off the stage. Initially, the 'The Troublemaker' pleaded not guilty, but reaching a deal to plead guilty, the singer appeared in Fishkill court in New York City on Wednesday morning, pleading guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree harassment, rather than the more serious charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
Fined $350 and 65-hours of anti-gang and anti-violence community service, the singer, soon apart from rocking the stage, will be preaching the evils of violence and gang life. His community service must be completed before June, and in case he gets arrested anytime within the next twelve months, he will be required to reappear in Fishkill court.
Seated four rows behind Smith and parents during court proceedings, soon as the matter was settled, Smith's father confronted Akon. Reportedly, while leaving the courthouse, the teen approached the singer and shaking his hand thanked him. As Akon apologized saying 'we never had a chance to talk,' the boy's father interrupted, exclaiming: 'You threw my son off the stage.'
Not the first time Akon has been criticize for his on stage antics, apparently in April 2007 during a concert in Trinidad , Akon was video-taped simulating sex with a young girl onstage. Once again, the singer had to apologise.
