Study: low sex drives may be caused in women due to guilt of being aroused

A recent study has showed that some women may experience lesser sex drives because of the presence of a guilt feeling about being aroused.

Researchers have found that women did not know that they were aroused even when there were physical responses to prove so.

A report by Irish Independent reads, “Self-reported sexual arousal is subject to impression management - as in the greater reluctance among women high in sex guilt to report feeling sexually aroused.”

In simpler words, this means that women feel extremely guilty about sex so they do not admit being aroused and sometimes even convince themselves that they are not.

The study suggests that this may be true for many women resulting in a lot of women leading a less satisfying sex life while men almost never showed any discrepancy between their mind and body.

The study involved an observation of 132 cases over 40 years and examined the mental responses of 4,000 men and women. There was an exposure to erotic stimuli like pornography for the volunteers who were asked to report how they felt.

A variety of machines were used to track the physical responses of the participants like increased blood flow.

Meredith Chivers, from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, says “Our results have implications for the assessment of sexual arousal, the nature of gender differences in sexual arousal, and models of sexual response.”
