LG Mobile Handset Built on Intel's Moorestown Platform Demonstrated

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2010, Intel chief executive officer Paul Ottelini showcased a mobile handset manufactured by LG, which is built on the technology firm's Moorestown platform. The gadget has managed to bring "Intel Inside" from computers to mobile phones, and is a part of the "unspoken" CES theme of blurring the line between mobile devices and portable computers.

While Intel does hold a very dominant position when it comes to providing processors for computers, it has not managed to gain a stake in mobile handsets. But mobile phones have now become smartphones, and this has managed to give the company an advantage.

The newly showcased phone has been christened the LG GW990 smartphone, and it looks somewhat like an iPhone. It has an Intel processor and runs on the Linux-based Moblin operating system.

The device has a 5-inch multi-touch screen, and is capable of capturing high definition 720p video. Also, it has a camera in both front and back.

While talking about the Moorestown platform, Mr. Ottelini says, "It's smaller, faster and better than anything we've done before".
