With the coming of the New Year, California is all set to indulge in an all new debate about whether marijuana use should be legalized or not. The issue seems to have more people opposing than supporting, as way too many people already abuse the state law which is intended to help the truly ill by legalizing the use of pot for people with an official recommendation by the doctor.
The new idea here is that marijuana should be sold legally as a taxed commodity.
Nevadans for Sensible Marijuana Laws, a branch of the Marijuana Policy Project, is now all set to start its proposed campaign on Wednesday. According to the group, the drive would help create a "taxed and regulated" marijuana market for all adults over the age of 21.
The measure, to be effective, would require 97,002 signatures from registered voters by November 2010, in order to successfully qualify for the bailout on November 2012.
"We are excited to be launching this historic campaign. e have literally spent months drafting this initiative and believe it is the best marijuana-related initiative ever proposed. We are fully confident that we will qualify for the ballot and will garner majority support in 2012", said Campaign Manager Dave Schwartz.
