On Sunday, a United Airlines jetliner landed safely in Newark, without one of its landing gears completely deployed, after a terrifying few moments for all travelers aboard, who were all braced in the crash position before an "unbelievably smooth" landing which led the crowd to cheer.
All 53 passengers managed to get off the plane safely.
As shared by passenger Paul Wasylyszyn of Chicago, United Airlines Flight 634 was approaching Newark Liberty International Airport at about 9 AM when the plane suddenly began to dip again, and then started circling the airport.
The captain then informed the passengers and crew onboard that there was "an issue" with one of the landing gears, and they were "trying to fix it". The plane was an Airbus 319.
"They did a great job. There was no yelling, screaming, panicking or anything", a passenger said of the captain and crew.
United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said that it was not immediately clear what had caused the malfunctioning of the landing gear and when the airplane landed, its belly partly hit the runway and the right wing has been damaged.
