Despite the biting cold and an unusually chilly weather in the country, many users of public transport in various cities opted to take off their trousers in lieu of the No Pants Day.
The event first started in 2002 in New York City, and requires participants with bare legs to mingle with fellow travelers. Improv Everywhere, organizers of the event, shared that as many as 3,000 people participated in New York alone, with more in 43 other cities across 16 countries.
The mission of the event, the group says, is to cause "scenes of chaos and joy in public places".
Participants were required to meet at one designated train station, fully dressed, before boarding and taking off their trousers. Other travelers are urged to keep a straight face, act normally and act like they have not noticed that other people are without pants.
"There is not really any point or any cause" to the event. We're just trying to put smiles on people's faces", said Bruce Witzenburg, one of the organizers.
