Major Update Announced by Samsung to Internet@TV Platform

Giant manufacturer of electronics, Samsung has announced that it will be including a major update to its Internet@TV platform that will make it possible for owners of this type of a TV to store about 70 to 100 applications on the new platform, which would include the likes of BBC's iPlayer service, LOVFiLM movie streaming and Muzu. TV for music-themed videos.

The new Internet@TV update will be available on select television sets to begin with, in addition to all Blu-ray players and Blu-ray Home Cinema Systems starting 2010. The new platform will offer music, videos, social networking access, news and games, but what is really catching attention is the fact that it will be the first time that a TV or Blu-ray player will be offering a built-in video on demand service.

"BBC iPlayer has enjoyed huge success since launch two years ago, and the next challenge for us is taking the service mobile and into the living room. People are getting more familiar with on- demand TV services, and with more internet-connected TVs coming into the market this year, we've built a version of BBC iPlayer that can be easily adapted to work on internet-connected TVs", said Erik Huggers, the BBC's Director for Future Media and Technology.

Across UK, the service will be supported by C9000, C8000, C7000, C6500 from Samsung's LED range, and the C750 and C650 LCD TVs, among other plasma and Blu-ray models.
