Dementia Cases on Rise in Canada

Remedy's RX and Alzheimer Society of Canada, had joined hands for educating Canadians about the expected rise in dementia cases in the country.

RX Pharmacy will publish this topic in January edition of series on health education.

Morasse, on 19th Jan, will be discussing the report by Alzheimer's Society "Rising Tide: The Impact of Dementia on Canadian Society", and will also be presenting the information designed to help the people in identifying the symptoms of dementia. The reports intimates that in coming 30 years, dementia cases will increase to 1.25 million in Canada s as baby boomers will be turning in to senior citizens.

Currently, an estimated 500,000 Canadians are suffering from dementia, with 70,000 less than 65 years of age.

Deborah Barker, of the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce shared that 30-40 new clients are adding up every month.

The local chapter of Alzheimer Society presently has an annual budget of $560,000, out of which $240,000 is donated by The Local Health Integration Network and the rest comes from the fund raising schemes.
