According to a recent research pregnant women who are 'too posh to push' need to rethink their decision of going for a Caesarean section as it can put their health at risk.

Women who had a Caesarean section had 2.7 times more chances of having complications. This was concluded after conducting a study on more than 100,000 births.

World Health Organization stated that Caesarean section should be preferred only when it is needed for medical reasons.

There were more chances of women to suffer severe bleeding and getting admitted to the intensive care if they have a Caesarean section without being recommended by a doctor.

Authors of the report wrote, “Women and their carers who plan to undertake Caesarean section delivery should discuss the potential risks involved.”

The trend of more women going in for Caesarean section is being attributed to celebrities like Catherine Zeta Jones and Victoria Beckham going for it.

According to a survey that was based on data from Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam the rate of Caesarean sections was 27.3 per cent. It was also noticed that using forceps or a vacuum for operative vaginal delivery increased risk two times as compared to normal birth.

Yap-Seng Chong, of the National University of Singapore, added, "There is little wrong with medical interventions but those who are inclined to consider caesarean delivery harmless need to take a cold hard look at the evidence against unnecessary caesarean sections."
