As was recently confirmed by the company, movie rental service Netflix is all set to bring its streaming service to Nintendo Wii, which is one the top-ranked gaming consoles of the world, a move which will greatly expand Netflix's market for content which is delivered digitally to users.
Both Netflix and Nintendo have confirmed that the service would go live by the Spring of 2010, which will give Netflix users, who already have the $200 Wii, instant access to over 17,000 movies and television shows.
"The launch of the Wii is a huge step forward for Netflix. With the installed base of over 26 million, all Wi-Fi equipped, that's almost one in four American homes. It's a big step forward in our digital evolution", said Netflix Founder and CEO Reed Hastings.
By joining hands with Nintendo, Netflix will be able to reach out to over 26 million homes across the United States, which is by far the biggest installed base of any of the service's already compatible devices.
The company already has deals to offer its services to owners of Microsoft's XBox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 gaming consoles, in addition to other TVs, TiVo, Blu-ray players, and much more.
