Going by the statistics put forth by analytics firm Flurry, the much-glorified Android-based Google smartphone, ‘Nexus One,’ has evidently failed to live up to the hype created about the device - with the first week sales of the phone being only about 20,000 units!
The market research firm further said that the first week sales figures of the Nexus One are much lower that the first week sales of other Android phones – while the first week sales of the Motorola Droid on Verizon Wireless stood at 250,000 units; those of the T-Mobile myTouch 3G stood at 60,000 units.
In spite of the fact that Google’s Nexus One features the most unique Android features, the weak first week sales of the phone are a clear indication that Google could not reap substantial benefits from its marketing endeavors, which were not as strong as the nearly $100-million marketing push for the Motorola Droid.
Google actually went in for a rather ‘soft’ launch of its $500-priced unlocked Nexus One, selling it via its websites alone. Further, the mixed reviews that early users of the device gave about the phone also affected its first week sales.
As per the Flurry report, the Google Nexus One specifically lacks the “Wow!” factor – with the general perception of the customers being that the phone is more of an ‘evolutionary’ device over other Android phones, rather than being a ‘revolutionary’ one!
