State Officials Take Protest Against Aid to Nebraska in Health Bill to a Larger

The call to derail the aid that is being awarded to Nebraska in the Congressional healthcare legislation was taken to Washington by South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster on Wednesday, where he addressed all conservative leaders and held a news conference that was relayed nationwide.

Mr. McMaster, who is currently in the run for Governor, stressed that the said Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson, a Democrat, has joined his effort to slap a court challenge on the Senate bill over its clause that other states would be required to cover Nebraska's cost of expanded Medicare coverage under the new system.

Last month, Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., had agreed to lend his support to the bill to ensure that medical benefits are offered to the 38 million uninsured Americas, but only after the Senate Democratic officials added a clause which exempted Nebraska from about $100 Million in new costs.

Under the clause, other states' payments would be substantially increased.

Mr. McMaster, who is a Republican, has strongly denied that his increasingly high profile and public opposition to the bill is politically motivated.
