E.Coli detected in a sample of Nestle Cookie Dough

Nestle USA said that two samples of its refrigerated cookie dough made at a Virginia factory has tested positive for E. Coli bacteria. They said that this happened despite the stringent safety measures put in place after a recall of the product done previous summer.

Nestle said that the infected dough was still in the factory premises therefore no recall ws required to be done.

The company also said this week that it is planning to close down the plant in Danville Va. for almost two weeks while it plans to alter the recipe and production processes.

After reopening, the company will begin using flour which has been heated to kill dangerous bacteria, including E. Coli, salmonella and listeria.

Nestle said that all the cookie dough which is in stores currently is safe for consumption and there is no need for a recall.

Roz O’Hearn, a Nestle spokeswoman, said “Everything that’s in the marketplace is fine and has passed our testing.” Nestle had ordered a massive recall of the bake-at-home cookie dough in
