Reports have confirmed that Amazon is looking to expand the self-publishing platform for its Kindle e-reader to allow authors, and maybe even right holders, to upload electronic books all across the world in English, German and French.
The online retailers worldwide launch of its Digital Text Platform has come after Amazon also extending the market for its Kindle DX e-reader, to take it beyond North America, a move which was undertaken earlier this month.
Under Amazon's self publishing platform, those with publishing rights for a book or a publication will be allowed to sell the content to Amazon's Kindle Store. Previously, the platform was limited to include only content which has been released in English, and only to authors and publishers based in the US.
Rights holders will get to set their own price and will receive 35% of the total sales.
However, Amazon would have to be careful about ensuring that a publisher or author actually holds the right to the content, so as to not get into trouble like last July, when the company went on to quietly deletes all copies of 1984 and Animal Farm from Kindles everywhere, after the actual rights holder complained.
