Relief to Haiti Sent Out by Local Church

Tuesday's earthquake which hit Haiti has been designated by the UN as the "worst loss of life ever", and the whole world is trying to help in whatever little way possible, with West Texans also doing their bit. A local church also tried to contribute whatever it could to the cause.

St. Ann's Catholic Church, which has been sending out donations for disaster relief for a very long time now, has been actively trying to help people in Haiti, and some members have said that this has "struck a chord" which "felt close to home".

During prayer today, the church gave extra though to those who have been victims of the Haiti disaster.

"My heart goes out to these people who are stricken, no food, no medicine, no water... that could be me", said Parishioner Katherine Lundy.

Many who were attending ended up emptying their pockets and wallets in order to send whatever little they could towards relief.

"Haiti was already known as the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and now this is just another blow. Eighty percent of the people in Haiti are Catholics and so it’s an expression of our fellowship with those of our religion in that area", said Monsignor Larry Droll of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

The money which has been collected by the St. Ann's congregation today will be given to the Catholic Relief Services.
