IVF among older women gets mixed response

Conceiving a child late in life has attracted a mixed response. There have been arguments after Susan Tollefsen, the oldest woman, who got an IVF done from abroad.

However, many women like Tollefsen may now hope to get assistance from the London Women's Clinic in Harley Street. If not then there is no dearth of women wanting to travel abroad for getting a treatment.

But fertility Professor Ian Craft expert points out that no one should intervene if a woman wants to conceive after 50 because there have been women who have given birth after menopause which justifies giving IVF to women in their 50s.

Medical experts however state that IVF in older women can lead to complications while giving birth and during pregnancy also.

There are clinics in countries like Russia and Ukraine where women have got IVF treatment.

Tollefsen said, 'I'm still so full of life and healthy at nearly 60 and I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be treated.

Regarding reports that the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority had cancelled Tollefsen’s clinic’s license she clarified that her license was never revoked by the authority.
